Analysis Of The Movie Paris Is Burning - 1244 Words

Profiling has always been in our society, in the United States and all around the world. Some based more on racial characteristics and sexual orientation, rather than social status and intellectual abilities. During the past years, it has become more than frequent the cases of police brutality, in most occasions where cops end up abusing their authority and force by hurting and murdering Africa American civilians by the simple assumption that because their skin is dark they represent a threat and have no good intentions. These occurrences seem like won’t have a stop until the people making these mistakes end up with repercussions for their actions. Also, another flaw in our society are stereotypes that people use judging people by ethnicity and how they look , and as much as we try to act as if these things don’t exist or are rarely happening, it is something that we cannot hide and take part of our lives on a daily basis. The movie â€Å"Paris is Burning† is a g ood foundation to this argument because the characters face many adversities for considering themselves of a different gender, and being constantly put down and told that they’re not something that they feel like they really are. This is what the term â€Å"double consciousness† by W.E.B Dubois means, how people throughout history born in the United States into a non-white family with every right as any other American, feels like a complete stranger oppressed by others because they don’t get the same equality and treatment asShow MoreRelated The Political Performance of Motherhood: Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo3446 Words   |  14 PagesPortillo and Muà ±ozs documentary, the Madres march in the streets in their trademark white kerchiefs. Cost of Living in America Free Essays

Samad Saadiq Cost of Living in America America is the best place to live. But â€Å"money is the key to survival† (Crute) which all Americans live by. With the economy growing fast so is the cost of living. We will write a custom essay sample on Cost of Living in America or any similar topic only for you Order Now The cost of living is the amount of money it cost to survive with the basic necessities. Even though majority Americans survived off of the cost of living, they believed that things would get better, and they would be able spend money on things other than necessities. The changes in the type of jobs, necessities, and how people spent money 50 years ago to now increase the cost of living. This is why the cost of living provides more jobs, better pay, and better places to live. With work being the only source of income people viewed it as an â€Å"obligation† (Crute). â€Å"Work was something that everyone did, and wasn’t considered a job† (Crute). People worked because they had to; it was the only way to survive. Families could not survive if their parents did not work, because there was no money. Although most of the money that came into the households came from the parents; children also worked and brought in money. The only jobs that existed were jobs that provide goods and services needed for survival. â€Å"My mother was an in house nurse and worked barely for minimum wage† (Crute). The average American would pay â€Å"$49,000 for a house, 35 cents for cigarettes, and one cent for candy† (Crute). A place to stay and food to eat are the necessities. Rarely was money spent on things such as movies, candy, or eating out. Living was just living and we survived just fine off of the basic needs in 1960. The 21st century is a lot different compared to how people viewed the world 50 years ago. Most people go to work because they enjoy what they do or they enjoy the benefits from the job. There are jobs for just about anything you want to do in the world, encouraging more Americans to work. Majority of Americans work, but the government is more  involved  in helping  struggling  families who don’t work to survive. There are child labor laws that prohibit children from working until they turn at least 14 years old. The economy is in such a terrible state that nothing is cheap, increasing the cost of living. The average loaf of bread cost about $3. 9 which is more than a gallon of gas. Even though nothing is cheap we do spend money on more than necessities. People pay thousands of dollars to put rims on their cars instead of hubcaps. This is like throwing away money. Hard earned money should be spent but not wasted. Crute remembers paying 25 cents for a gallon of gas, that we now pay $2. 79 for. In order to keep up with the increasing prices of these products and people living their lavish life styles, they have to pay workers more money to survive. With the cost of living now at â€Å"$8. 5 per hour† (WHD) people feel encouraged to spend it on the finer things in life. Such as the $49,000 dollar home this now costs $350, 000, or a $30,000 car. Even though the cost of living is expense it created better opportunities for American citizens. Money is everything and Americans have been given more over the years because it costs more to live it in a beautiful place. Citizens still need the necessities but now there are more than just food and shelter that are considered necessities. If it wasn’t for cost of living costing so much we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our money like we do now. It would feel like the people who worked 50 years ago like an obligation but it doesn’t. Everything has increased from the number of jobs to the amount of money we bring home in just one month. The cost of living is now more than survival it’s about living life. Describing Myself Essay Example For Students

Describing Myself Essay â€Å"Life isnt about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. † George Bernard Shaw This quote by George Bernard Shaw, seems enough to define personality of any human being, it is the person himself who is responsible of creating his own personality, though environment around him does matter to some extent but majorly it is his attitude that brings out the real person in him. From the very start I should say that it is not an easy thing to speak about myself as it is hard to have a look at yourself from aside, but at the same time who knows you better than you yourself. Talking about me, my name is Albert. I’m closing to about 19 now. Starting with the studies, I was an average student in my primary classes. Honestly speaking scolding and punishment was almost a part of my everyday life. But after reaching class 8th, everything just flipped; I became more responsible and started taking my studies seriously. God knows why a sudden change. Anyhow, I did my secondary education from crescent kids campus, scoring 88% marks while Punjab College was the institute from where I did my Fsc scoring 80% marks. Focusing on the present, there is a lot to describe. Starting with my activities except studies, I really have a strong attraction towards movies. The movies that fascinate me are more of action, science fiction, and horror and crime type. Some of my favorite action movies include The Transporter, The Fast and Furious, The Conjuring, Transformers, and many more. Besides this, romantic movies also find some space in my movies collection. The best romantic movie Ive watched is The Notebook. Apart from movies I also indulge myself in sports activities like cricket and soccer. My character is difficult to describe. One can say that I have a very complex nature. When it comes to enjoying, I make sure I really feel and enjoy that moment. Hanging out with friends, teasing someone on a subject over and over again, taking someone’s belonging and not giving him back till he begs me for it, this may look childish but I really enjoy doing these small jokes. Caring for people has always been my desire. Whenever I see someone, who I think need care or help; I am always willing to help them. Moving forward to my demerits, one of them is that I get angry within seconds, especially if someone asks too many questions. It is very difficult for me to stay cool in tough situations. Along with this Im also a bit shy towards making new friends, and last but not the least the worst demerit that also irritates me a lot is that in classes or lectures I mostly sit mum, this has bothered me since my school life. So this is me. This essay is not just a matter of words, but yet my life. Who knew my life could be filled in such little space, however this is only just a part of me. These are some of the many things about me and facts about me from my personal point of view.
